I admit; I tried an over the counter weight loss pill once. I think I took them for a few days and tossed them. The situation that was causing me to gain weight was not going to be solved by taking a pill. The scary thing is, I didn't even know how dangerous some weight loss products actually are.
The FDA has put out it's second National Alert since December 2008 about tainted diet products containing undeclared, active pharmaceutical ingredients. Some of the products are marketed as dietary supplements and claim to be "natural" or "herbal."
Even if something really is natural or herbal does not necessarily mean it is safe. Poison Ivy is natural too, but I wouldn't purposely take a nap in it.
The FDA has listed 72 products that are sold on-line and in stores and beauty salons that contain ingredients that are illegal to be sold in the United States or contain prescription drugs in amounts that greatly exceed maximum recommended dosages. Click here for detailed info from the FDA.
I know I'm repeating myself, but losing weight and/or improving our health is all about our lifestyles. Eating the right kinds of food, the proper amount of food, and physical activity is what it takes, whether we like it or not.
Besides having a disease that we may truly have no control over, being healthy is determined by what we put into our mouths, our minds, and our hearts.
